LESSON ONE

THE ENTRANCE PROCESSION

In the sacristy we get ready after the prayer by arranging the servers in two groups:
The Front Group and the Back Group.
The person at the head of the front group will have the job of Water Server at Mass; the person at the head of the back group will have the job of Wine Server at Mass.

LINEOUT

We start walking out. The second person out rings the bell at the door.

Then the procession starts.
The Front Group walk straight out from the sacristy door. After the first person steps off the Altar step he/she takes one extra step and then turns left and starts walking towards the front of the altar. As each person in the Front Group comes off the step they do the same thing and follow the server in front of them closely. When the first person in the front group reaches the first altar candle all the group stop and turn left to face the altar.

Meanwhile the Back Group are following.
When the leading person in the back groups steps off the Altar step YOU TAKE TWO EXTRA STEPS OUT, close to the edges of the seats, before turning left because this group must pass behind the Front Group.

All in the group continue across the front of the altar.
When the leader of the group reaches the second candle he/she turns left towards the altar without stopping and takes one step forward to be level wth the other group up against the altar step.
The next person passes behind the leader, turns left and takes one step forward to be level with his/her leader and the other group. The rest of the people in the Back group do the same thing in turn until all are lined up facing the altar with a big gap between the groups and when the priest steps into this gap he has the Water Server on his left and the Wine Server on his right.
